The Democratic Party’s Actions During Trump’s Speech Were Perceived as the Death of Common Sense

In a political landscape where perception is often as powerful as policy, the Democratic Party’s response to President Donald Trump’s congressional address on March 4, 2025, did little to reinforce their credibility. What could have been a night of principled opposition and meaningful discourse devolved into a spectacle of disjointed protests, theatrical displays, and behavior that critics argue undermined the very values the party claims to uphold. From exaggerated pouting and phone-staring to outright refusals to acknowledge moments of unity, the Democrats’ actions seemed less about advocating for the people they represent and more about making a scene. The question now is: Has the Democratic Party abandoned common sense in favor of performative outrage?
