The Parable of the Sower is a story that Jesus told in order to explain the different ways that people receive the message of the gospel.

The seed that falls on the rocky ground represents those who hear the word and receive it with joy, but they do not have deep roots and they fall away when trials come. The seed that falls among the thorns represents those who hear the word but allow the cares of this world and the lure of wealth to choke out the word. The seed that falls on the good soil represents those who hear the word and understand it. They produce a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown.

There are six main points that can be gleaned from this parable:

• The seed is the word of God,
• The different types of soil represent different types of people,
• Some people will not receive the word of God,
• Some people will receive the word but will not hold onto it,
• Some people will receive the word but will allow other things to choke it out, and
• Some people will receive the word and it will take root in their hearts.

The Seed is the Word of God

The first point that can be gleaned from the parable is that the seed is the word of God. This is seen in verse 3, where it says, “A sower went out to sow.” The word “sower” is only used one other time in the New Testament, and that is in Luke 8:11. In that verse, Jesus is explaining the parable of the sower to his disciples and he says, “The seed is the word of God.” So, we see that the seed in the parable of the sower is a symbol of the word of God.

The Different Types of Soil Represent Different Types of People

The second point that can be gleaned from the parable is that the different types of soil represent different types of people. This is seen in verses 4-8, which describe the different types of soil and what happens to the seed that falls on each type. The seed that falls on the path represents those who hear the word of God but do not understand it. The seed that falls on the rocky ground represents those who hear the word and receive it with joy, but they do not have deep roots and they fall away when trials come. The seed that falls among the thorns represents those who hear the word but allow the cares of this world and the lure of wealth to choke out the word. Some People Will Not Receive the Word of God

We know that this seed represents those who hear the word of God but do not understand it. This is because Jesus tells us in Luke 8:11 that “the seed is the word of God.” So, when it says that some of the seeds fell on the path, it is saying that some people will not receive the word of God.

Some People Will Receive the Word but Will Not Hold Onto It

This is seen in verse 5, where it says that some of the seeds fell on rocky ground. We know that this seed represents those who hear the word and receive it with joy, but they do not have deep roots and they fall away when trials come. This is because Jesus tells us in Luke 8:11 that “the seed is the word of God.” So, when it says that some of the seeds fell on rocky ground, it is saying that some people will receive the word but will not hold onto it. They may have a shallow understanding or they may not be fully committed to following Jesus. Either way, when trials come, they will fall away.

Some People Will Receive the Word but Will Allow Other Things to Choke It Out

In verse 7, where it says that some of the seed fell among thorns. We know that this seed represents those who hear the word but allow the cares of this world and the lure of wealth to choke out the word. This is because Jesus tells us in Luke 8:11 that “the seed is the word of God.” So, when it says that some of the seed fell among thorns, it is saying that some people will receive the word but will allow other things to choke it out. They may be worried about their finances or they may be chasing after material possessions. Whatever it is, if they are not careful, these things can choke out the word of God in their lives.

Some People Will Receive the Word and It Will Take Root in Their Hearts

In verse 8, where it says that some of the seed fell on good soil. We know that this seed represents those who hear the word and understand it. They produce a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown. This is because Jesus tells us in Luke 8:11 that “the seed is the word of God.” So, when it says that some of the seed fell on good soil, it is saying that some people will receive the word and it will take root in their hearts. They will understand it and they will live their lives according to it. As a result, they will bear fruit for God’s kingdom.
